What is a DSG transmission ?

The DSG gearbox is nothing more than the join of two gearboxes in one housing, each of these gearboxes have a separate clutch. The use of two clutches made possible to select two gears at the same time, with the car moving only in the gear for which the clutch is currently engaged. If, for example, we are on 2nd gear, we are ready to use 3rd gear and the gear change itself consists in disconnecting one clutch and engaging the other. This method of shifting gears allows you to eliminate pulls/wrenches when shifting gears and reduces the time needed to change gears.

DSG automatic gearbox service

The DSG transmission uses multi-plate (wet) clutches operating in an oil bath. Each of these clutches is responsible for specific gear ratios. The first is for odd runs, the second is for even runs. The gears are shifted by means of hydraulic cylinders controlled by a computer.
